Comparison: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade & Perfect Brow Pencil in Medium Brown

I have enjoyed Anastasia Beverly Hills' Dipbrow Pomade for a while now (since the launch of my blog, my review of the dipbrow shade Medium Brown has been one of my most popular posts), and I wanted to try another product from the brand for the Sephora VIB sale. I figured I would stick with the group of products Anastasia is best known for - brows. And, since I know the color Medium Brown works well for my coloring, I had to take a brow pencil for a spin.

In choosing between the two brow pencils offered by Anastasia Beverly Hills, I chose the lesser known Perfect Brow Pencil over the perennial YouTube favorite Brow Wiz. Check out the stats: Brow Wiz contains .003 oz of product for $21 and the Perfect Brow Pencil contains .034 oz of product for $23.
A little arithmetic shows the ridiculous disparity in price: Brow Wiz costs $7,000 per ounce of product, while the Perfect Brow Pencil compares at $676 per ounce. (Just for fun, Dipbrow costs $128 per ounce)

Formula Review

While I have owned Dipbrow for much longer than the Perfect Brow Pencil, the pencil has already earned a place in my go-to top drawer. As any makeup addict with a huge stash knows, top drawer billing is *huge* for a new product. I will likely come back with a more detailed review of the Perfect Brow pencil when I have used it more, but so far so good. The formula is hard, not very pigmented yet buildable, and long lasting on the brows. By comparison, Dipbrow is more creamy and pigmented with the same excellent longevity.

These products are excellent companions. The Perfect Brow Pencil's lack of serious pigmentation in one swipe means that it is forgiving and easy to use in a hurry, which answers my only real con to the Dipbrow Pomade. On the other hand, Dipbrow truly delivers on drama when I can spend an extra few minutes on my makeup and can serve dual duty as eyeliner.

Swatches

The raison d'ĂȘtre for this post: the two Medium Browns are NOT the same shade!

The above swatches were done on bare, unprimed skin. As you can see, the Dipbrow Pomade is a much cooler toned brown and appears to have an almost olive undertone. The Perfect Brow Pencil is not a warm toned brown, but is certainly more neutral than the Dipbrow. The Dipbrow is so cool toned it makes the Perfect Brow Pencil look warm by comparison, but it is simply the warmest of all of my cool toned brown brow products. I also have a comparison swatch post that includes ABH Brow Wiz, Brow Powder Duo, Dipbrow Pomade, and Perfect Brown Pencil in Medium Brown.

Comparisons

These products are so different from each other in shade, I thought it would be helpful to pull in my other cool toned brown brow products for comparison.

Overall,
I was blown away by the difference in shades between both "Medium Brown" products. Both shades work with my fair, cool toned skin and medium brown hair, but they are different.
